A publishing demo of a song called Bad to Worse was listed on eBay on September 10, 2026. The catch is, the demo isn't attributed to a specific artist.
The seller credits it to Pam Sawyer and Mark Barkan, who also wrote "If I Didn't Love You" for Chuck Jackson. Sawyer went on to Motown in 1967, where she wrote "Love Child" and "Love Hangover". Barkan wrote "Pretty Flamingo".
It sold for £1,219 (around $1,633) after 10 days of bidding and 44 bids. The buyer has not been identified.
Publishing demos
Publishers made demos to pitch songs to record labels and artists. They'd hire a singer and a band, have a few acetates cut from the tape and send those out. An acetate is a lacquer disc that wears out after a few dozen plays. Metric Music was Liberty Records' publishing company.
