Ten days of bidding took a 1966 Spider-Man card to $175,100.
On August 7, 2026 an ebay seller started two auctions thirty seconds apart. Both were the same card, a 1966 Donruss Marvel Super Heroes #34. Their PSA certification numbers run consecutively, so both went through grading together. One is a PSA 7. The other is a PSA 9.
The two auctions closed on August 16. The PSA 7 sold for $35,101 on 81 bids. The PSA 9 copy sold for $175,100 on 218 bids.
The "rookie" card
Donruss released Marvel Super Heroes in 1966, the first Marvel trading cards. Sixty-six cards ran in six blocks of eleven, a hero each: Captain America 1 to 11, Iron Man 12 to 22, Daredevil 23 to 33, Spider-Man 34 to 44, the Hulk 45 to 55, Thor 56 to 66. The fronts are comic panels with the original dialogue replaced by gags, and fourteen of them left the balloon empty to be filled in.
Collectors treat the first card of each block as that character's rookie, which makes #34 Spider-Man's.
The 66 backs assemble into one picture. Spider-Man's face lands on the back of #6, a Captain America card that sellers list as the "Spider-Man back".
"The most underrated set in all of trading cards"
According to the PSA population report, ten copies of #34 have been graded 9, with only 2 copies graded higher.
The set's prices had been climbing since spring. On March 22, 2026 Gary V published a piece calling the 1966 Donruss set "the most underrated set in all of trading cards", and disclosed what he had paid for a #34 in PSA 5: $415 at auction in August 2024, then $2,500 in February 2026.
Another PSA 9 had sold eleven days earlier, through a listing that asked $60,000 with offers open, and eBay does not publish what it took. The rest of the ladder moved while the bidding ran: a PSA 8 sold for $25,000 on July 31, and another for $50,000 twelve hours before the close. GRADEx's list of the highest public non-sport card sales now puts #34 above every other Marvel card on it. That includes the modern one-of-one parallels that trade at Goldin.
